When the first cold week hits, comforters, heavy blankets and sleeping bags come out of the closet, and many of them don't fit in a home washer. To get those bulky loads, tell people your big washers take them, show the machines, run one simple special, launch it that first cold week and aim your ads at the few miles around your store.
None of that is complicated. The hard part is timing. It's easy to get around to a comforter promotion a month after the cold snap, when the blankets are already clean. The fix is to build it now and have it ready to switch on.

Comforter season: how laundromats get more bulky loads
We post a short laundromat marketing tip every Tuesday and Thursday on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.
Follow so you catch it →Why comforter season matters for your store
A king comforter is the load that sends people out of the house. It's too bulky to wash well at home, it takes forever to dry, and plenty of home machines can't take it at all. So once a year, people who never think about laundromats start looking for one. Someone who searches “wash comforter near me” wants to come in today. They just need to know which store has the machines.
It's also good news for your big machines, which are often the quietest ones in the store. If your small washers stay busy while your largest ones sit, the pattern we cover in what turns per day really tells you, comforter season is your yearly chance to fill them. And a customer who finds your big washers for a comforter may come back to them for towels and bedding.
Here are the five moves, in the order to set them up:
- Promote your big washers, and say what fits in them.
- Show those machines in your listing photos and your ads.
- Run one simple comforter special, for example $2 off any comforter wash.
- Launch it the first cold week, not a month late.
- Aim your ads at the few miles around your store.
Tell people what your big washers take, and show them
Customers can't see your machines from their couch. If your listing, website and signs never mention big washers, people will assume you're like every other store. So say it plainly: “Big washers for comforters, blankets, sleeping bags and pet beds.” Better yet, get specific and say which of your washers fit a king comforter. If you aren't sure, bring one in and try it. Then you can say it with confidence.
Only list what you actually welcome. If you don't allow pet beds or rugs in some machines, leave them off, or say which machines they go in.
Then show it, because a photo beats a sentence. Take a clear shot of your biggest washers with a comforter going in for scale, in daylight, with the area tidy and no customers' faces in the frame. Put it on your Google Business Profile, your Facebook page and your website. If your listing photos are from opening day, refresh them all while you're at it. Photos are part of our 10-minute Google Business Profile checkup. Use the same photo in your ads, so people recognize the machine when they walk in.
Run one simple comforter special
One offer, easy to explain and easy to redeem. Something like “$2 off any comforter wash this month” works because a customer can repeat it back after reading it once. That's an example, not a formula, so pick an amount and a time limit that fit your prices. What matters is that the offer is about the bulky load, not a general discount, so it pulls people toward the machines you want busy.
Word it around the customer's problem, not your equipment. “Your king comforter fits here” lands better than a list of machine capacities. Say what the offer is, where, and until when. Then decide how it gets redeemed before you announce it. If there's an attendant, “mention this post at the counter” is enough. If your store is unattended, pick something that works without a person on shift.
📋 A post you can copy
Comforter season is here. Our big washers take comforters, blankets and pet beds. This month: $2 off any comforter wash. Wash it, dry it, take it home fresh. Spin City Laundry, open daily 6 AM to 10 PM. (Swap in your own offer, store name and hours.)
Launch it the first cold week, not a month late
The week the temperature drops is the week people pull the heavy bedding out of the closet. That week comes at a different time in Minnesota than in Texas, so watch your own forecast, not the calendar. Have everything ready before it arrives: the photo taken, the offer decided, the post written, the counter sign printed and the ad built and waiting. When the forecast shows the first real cold, you switch it on.
Run it for a few weeks, then let it rest. A comforter special that runs all winter stops feeling special. You can bring it back in spring, when the heavy bedding gets washed before it goes back in the closet.
Put the offer where people will see it
Use the places you already have, and say the same thing in all of them:
- Your Google Business Profile. Share an update with the photo and the offer, and make sure your listing mentions your big washers. That's where the “near me” searchers land.
- Your Facebook page. The post above, with the photo.
- A sign at the counter and on the door. The customers already inside know people with comforters.
- Email and text to your customer list, only to people who agreed to hear from you. A text could read: “Spin City Laundry: Comforter season is here. Our big washers take a king comforter, and this month it's $2 off any comforter wash. Reply STOP to opt out.”
- Ads aimed at the few miles around your store. Point Facebook and Instagram ads at the neighborhoods close to you, not the whole city.
That last one is where an ad budget goes furthest. Nobody drives across town to wash a comforter when there's a laundromat around the corner. A tight radius around your store, and around the apartment buildings nearby, puts your comforter photo in front of the people most likely to come. That's what our geo-fencing ads do, managed by hand by our team.
Mistakes to avoid
- Building it after the cold arrives. By the time it's ready, the comforters are clean.
- Saying “big machines” without saying what fits. “Fits a king comforter” answers the question people actually have.
- Using a stock photo. People want to see your machines, not a generic washer.
- Stacking conditions on the offer. A minimum, a code and a one-day window turn a simple special into fine print.
- Aiming ads at the whole city. Most of those people have a laundromat closer to home.
What to do this week
Find out which of your washers take a king comforter. Take the photo. Pick your offer and write the post. Then check the forecast and put the launch on your calendar. When the first cold week shows up, you'll be the store that was ready for it.
